COLEMAN TYRE COMPANY - TYRE CHECKS

WHAT TO CHECK - PUNCTURES

Checking tyres regularly can save money in the long run. A small puncture can allow moisture to seep into the steel radial belts that hold the tyre together, this in time causes corrosion and allows these vital radial strips to seperate. A basic punture repair takes about ten to fifteen minutes to complete and could save a lot money in the long run.

WHAT TO CHECK - TYRE PRESSURES
Tyre Pressure should be checked about twice a month to ensure that any problems are caught before excessive damage can occur. Tyre Pressures should be maintained usiing the charts on our Tyre Pressure page - here.
WHAT TO CHECK - TREAD DEPTH
The tyre tread depth must be a minimum of 1.6mm to be road legal in Australia. Tread wear indicators are on all tyres and should be checked regularly.
WHAT TO CHECK - UNEVEN WEAR
Low Tyre Pressure Wear
The picture on the left shows a tyre tread wearing due to under inflation, the white area shows where the tyre is in contact with the road, the reason why the tyre is not wearing in the middle is because the outside edges of the rim is keeping the tyre side in check, while the centre of the tyre is taking little to no weight at all.
High Tyre Pressure Wear
The picture on the left shows a tyre tread wearing due to over inflation the centre is worn down because the tyre is ballooning out, this is a common wear pattern for lighter vehicles running larger tyres, as the tyres are designed to carry higher working loads at lower pressures.
Wheel Alignment Wear
The picture on the left shows a tyre tread wearing due to wheel alignment, thisis because the camber is not correct causing the tyre to sit at angle during travel along the road.
Tyre Balance Wear
The picture on the left shows a tyre tread wearing due to poor balancing, the centre tread blocks are wearing down as the tyre is making an uneven track for itself on the road. this can occur further out from the centre in some cases, but still be due to poor balancing. If the balancing is correct it is mot likely being caused by suspension issues.
